SCALE HIV™ app for iPhone and iPad

Enormous strides have been made in streamlining the care of patients with HIV/AIDS, including the development of convenient medication regimens which are helping people with the virus live longer than ever before.

Yet clinical challenges remain:

▸ Who should be screened?
▸ How are HIV-positive individuals effectively counseled?
▸ How do we link them to the care they need?

SCALE HIV™ was developed by The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine to familiarize general practitioners and clinicians with the latest CDC HIV screening and counseling guidelines and to help them link their patients to appropriate care promptly.

A key component of the app is the AAHIVM ReferralLink database, available now for the first time on a mobile device.

This feature enables clinicians to identify and promptly refer patients to local HIV care-providers, simply by inputting a zip code and other customizable fields including provider name, services, and payment types.

Studies have shown that delayed establishment of care following HIV diagnosis is common and is associated with worse long-term outcomes. We hope that by offering patient-customized, point-of-care access to HIV specialists, clinicians will be able to move their patients to care sooner and with better outcomes.

Features include:

• Linkage to over 2,000 relevant, credentialed HIV clinicians available through the AAHIVM Referral Link Directory. Providers are easily searched by service(s) offered, clinician specialty, location and payment type(s) accepted.

• Quick reference to the CDC 2006 Recommendations for HIV Testing, including links to all state-by-state HIV testing laws

• Counseling guidance for addressing your patients’ questions and concerns about HIV prevention, testing and treatment

• Patient and clinician educational materials that can be emailed or printed directly from your iPhone/iPad (with an Apple® AirPrint enabled printer)
